HADID at EBACE 2023

The European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) is set to take place from May 23-25, 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland. The Palexpo Exhibition Center will host the event, while Geneva Airport will feature static aircraft displays. EBACE 2023 expects to bring together more than 25,000 aviation industry professionals from around the world.

EBACE 2023 will feature a broad range of groundbreaking innovations, covering everything from cutting-edge small planes to state-of-the-art intercontinental jets and eVTOL aircraft. Over 400 leading aircraft manufacturers will exhibit their latest avionics, attracting visitors eager to explore these pioneering technologies. The event also invites attendees to experience more than 50 aircraft on display at Geneva International Airport. At the same time, the Innovation Pavilion showcases ongoing investment projects from trailblazing companies.

In addition to the impressive exhibition, EBACE will offer a comprehensive program of educational sessions and an opening keynote, addressing the most relevant trends in aviation to help businesses stay ahead of the competition. The event will feature notable keynote speakers, including Toto Wolff, the CEO and co-owner of Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and Susie Wolff, a former race car driver that currently serves as the managing director of the F1 Academy. The Careers in Business Aviation Day provides opportunities for job seekers to explore various career paths within aerospace, technology, engineering, customer service, and entrepreneurship.

Once again, HADID is set to showcase alongside the leading players in the aviation industry. Our team will be stationed at Booth No. A60 and eagerly anticipates the opportunity to connect with you at the event. We're thrilled to reveal our latest updates and explore how our services can be advantageous to you or your enterprise.

Airport Guidelines

EBACE is distinctive because the exhibition and static display share the same venue, with LSGG airport connected to the PalExpo Conference Center. As a result, nearly all attendees arrive at EBACE through LSGG, which serves as an airport of entry (AOE) that offers comprehensive services, ground support equipment (GSE), and credit.

The operating hours are from 0600 to 2200 local time daily, with no overtime allowed. Arrivals must touch down by 2200 local time to avoid diversion, while departures need to be airborne by 2145 local time. There is an extension until 2359 local time for aircraft filed as IN, but passengers must be onboard (ferry flights cannot use this extension). LSGG is busy throughout the day, and due to its single runway, poor weather often causes delays. However, during the EBACE event, no runway closures are expected, as all demo flights will secure slots through standard channels.

LSGG Parking

Throughout the EBACE event, certain parking zones typically reserved for general aviation (GA) will be cordoned off and exclusively dedicated to static display aircraft. Consequently, overnight parking may be scarce during the event and a few days beforehand. By NOTAM, airport authorities are limiting GA parking to a single night for aircraft with wingspans exceeding 24 meters. If securing overnight parking at LSGG proves impossible, you may have to opt for a drop-and-go, restricting your time on the ground to approximately two hours.

Charter Considerations

Charter operators should consider permit lead times, as they may pose challenges for last-minute trips to Geneva (LSGG), particularly during the bustling EBACE period. Preparing the necessary documents and information in advance will expedite the permit acquisition process. Additionally, operators should familiarize themselves with the airport slot procedures and availability during the event. Other factors to consider include:

  • Having a tow bar on hand
  • Comprehending fuel uplift taxes
  • Arranging hotel accommodations
  • Navigating the customs, immigration, and quarantine (CIQ) processes

Permits for Switzerland

Swiss landing permits are required solely for charter operations, not private non-revenue flights. The official processing time is five business days, but permits can be obtained faster with proper organization and submission during regular CAA hours. Standard aircraft documents – including airworthiness, registration certificates, AOC, and worldwide insurance meeting European standards in SDR denominations – must be provided. Unlike Germany and France, there's no need for a Foreign Operator Questionnaire (FOQ) or security questionnaire.

Airport Slots and PPRs

Ground handlers typically acquire airport slots at LSGG online through a request system using a login and password. LSGG issues slots in 19-minute intervals and strictly enforces them. Upon approval, they provide a confirmation number that must be included in your flight plan remarks. Although LSGG usually doesn't require PPR, it is necessary during EBACE. LFLL slots have a +/- 30-minute validity, while LSZH slots have a +/- 15-minute validity. Both flight plans must note slot confirmations. LFSB requires airport slots and PPRs, but currently has no requirements for either.

Ground Support Equipment & CIQ Clearance

All mentioned airports offer fully available ground support equipment (GSE) services, but it is advisable to carry a tow bar during the busy EBACE period due to high traffic and potential shortages.

Passengers must have valid passports for at least six months, and depending on their nationality, they may require visas. It is essential to obtain permits before arrival since Switzerland only processes them upon arrival. The general aviation terminals (GAT) at LSGG, LSZH, LFSB, and LFLL efficiently process CIQ clearance.

Alternate Airports

For last-minute plans to attend EBACE or if sufficient parking is unattainable, consider alternate airports like Lyon (LFLL), Zurich (LSZH), and Basel (LFSB), which are AOEs with comprehensive GA support services. Bern (LSZB) is another option, but its runway is only 5,674 feet long. Alternatively, airports like Milan (LIML) can be contemplated, though it requires a three-hour train ride to Geneva.

Bottom Line

If you arrange early, parking at LSGG during EBACE may not be problematic. However, for last-minute or short-notice trips, be prepared to reposition to alternate parking. Preferred hotels near the airport in Geneva may be fully booked, so consider creative crew accommodation solutions, such as staying in France. Depending on the destination, airport slots and/or PPRs are necessary. Request these and parking in advance due to increased traffic. Be mindful of fuel taxes and available exemptions in the region.
